When you experience earache, it is usually accompanied by a headache. The pain can be severe and cause you to feel nauseous. Earache is a result of an infection or blockage in the ear canal. It can also be caused by an allergy to something in the ear or fluid accumulation in the ear. There are many things you can do to relieve the pain and make your head feel better. Here are some tips:
Make sure that your head is properly positioned when sleeping. Grasp your hair tightly with one hand and place the other over your forehead with your fingers pointing down. This will help keep your head in a proper position and reduce the chances of developing headaches in the morning.
Avoid using cotton balls to clean your ears. The friction from these balls can irritate the skin around your ears and exacerbate pain.
Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration and build up of fluid in the ear canal. Tap water, unsweetened iced tea, or even fruit juice can help relieve pain and discomfort.
Apply cold packs to the back of your neck and temples for 10 minutes every few hours if pain persists after taking other measures.
