What Causes a Slight Headache?

People often experience a headache as a result of many different things. The most common sources of headaches are stress, dehydration, and caffeine. Other causes include sinus pressure, fever, and head injury.

Here are five ways to relieve a headache

1. Drink plenty of fluids. Dehydration can lead to headaches because it decreases blood flow to the brain. If you’re experiencing a headache, drink lots of water and avoid alcohol and caffeine.
2. Take ibuprofen or acetaminophen if the headache is severe. Ibuprofen or acetaminophen can reduce pain and inflammation. However, be aware that taking too much ibuprofen or acetaminophen can cause nausea and vomiting. If this occurs, stop taking the medication and seek medical attention.
3. Use a cold compress on your forehead or temples. Cold compresses can help relieve pain and swelling in the head area. To make a cold compress, fill a small bowl with cool water and place it on your forehead or temples. Keep the compress there for about 10 minutes before removing it. Repeat as needed.
